... IN FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT A community football tournament involving police officers and youngsters from Stapleford is being held next Thursday (14 April). The five-a-side contest will be made up of eight teams, who will compete for a place in the final. The teams will be mixed and made up of both Nottinghamshire Police officers and staff and young people from the area. The tournament will be held at the University of Nottingham’s campus next to the Tennis Centre, in University Boulevard, from 7pm until 9pm. Each match will last around 15 minutes and police are encouraging local young people to take part. Broxtowe Borough Inspector Craig Berry said: "Officers from Stapleford’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out increased foot patrols in Stapleford over the past month to tackle burglary. “This has led to our officers engaging and interacting with the young people who live locally more than ever before. And after all the work we have been doing with them recently, we want to say a big thank you and give them something back.” Representatives from Crimestoppers will also be at the contest to promote its junior Crimestoppers initiative. They have kindly donated iTunes vouchers, which will be given to each young person on the winning team. Insp Berry added: “The tournament will be a lot of fun and we hope it will be another way of getting to know the youngsters in the area and will enable us to work much more closely with them in the future. “Anyone who enjoys playing football, or even those who just want to come along to watch, will receive a warm welcome.” Boys and girls of all abilities are invited to take part in the tournament. The pitch is Astroturf, so trainers or football boots can be worn. To find out more, contact PCSO Craig Gealy by calling 0300 300 99 99, extension 855 5760. Alternatively email him at
